Building a Brighter Future, Together.
Nani was engaged by Murdoch University to create a revitalised visual identity to reflect the new Strategic Direction ‘Building a brighter future, together’, and demonstrate an evolution into a more authentic and contemporary brand identity.
A visual design system was developed that reflects the Murdoch area’s Aboriginal culture and history in an appropriate and relevant way, and supports the University’s First Nations strategic theme.
We developed a new identity that is clearly distinct from other WA Universities, reflects Murdoch’s unique environmental setting and heritage, and provides an enduring brand foundation for the future.
The visual direction complements and reflects the content within the 2023-30 Strategic Plan.
We consulted with the Kulbardi team at Murdoch to understand cultural considerations and what makes Murdoch University such a unique place of learning for Aboriginal students.
“The lands now used for Murdoch University, Beeliar Regional Park and the Banksia Woodland were first used by Nyoogar Whadjuk people to move between the freshwater lakes and wetlands. Here they hunted and gathered a huge diversity of plants and animals to be used for food, medicine, shelter, tools and utensils.” - murdoch.edu.au.
Nani focussed on exploring an interpretive creative territory that used Murdoch’s natural environment as its inspiration. Graphic patterns were developed to represent the strategic themes, each of which connect to the campus environment.
