Six seasons that mark the unique and fluid changes observed in the environment each year.

Noongar people originate from an area spanning from Jurien Bay to Moora and down to Esperance and Bremer Bay. Before European settlement, the Noongar people hunted and gathered food according to these seasons which helped them determine the most plentiful plant and animal resources.

The seasons told them when and what to hunt and fish for, when animals and insects were breeding, when summer was coming, when the rain was coming, and when to find shelter.  The Noongar people learnt over thousands of years how to process the seeds, bulbs and nectar they harvested from plants to make them safely edible and nutritious.

This interpretive signage sits within the QEII Medical Centre, in landscaped gardens, planted in areas themed to the Noongar Six Seasons. The garden provides a quiet space to learn about how we can learn from Noongar culture to respond to our environmental changes to thrive.
